Four more cards

the

Castle Street, the large building on the left is the
Crown and Mitre Hotel (opened 1905). The card is
undated but is probably dated between 1910-20.
Tram lines can be seen in the middle of the road and
there is a tram in the distance. To the right is the
Greenmarket with Fairbairns the Florists in the centre.
Lockerbie's Temperance Hotel is to the left of
the picture, all the buildings to the left of the
Crown & Mitre have been demolished.

Dated 1904, this shows the view looking down English St
from the building that is now the Cumberland Building
Society (right, and much altered in the 1970s 0r 80s).

The buildings are still there but with vastly altered
frontages.

Standing just to the left of the lamp-post is what
appears to be a policeman.

The card above is English St. from the Law Courts
and is dated 1929. The statue in the centre has now
been moved to outside Littlewoods further up
English St. The building on the right ( a hotel) is,
at the time of posting being used as the Police Station
after the floods of 2005.

The lower card is a mystery, it is embossed on
the front B.SCOTT & SONS, CARLISLE
I date it to about 1919 and appears to be
the dedication of a cross (catholic church?)

Mystery solved, it is the unveiling of a war memorial crucifix in the churchyard of Christ Church in Botchergate on 26th July 1921. The Building is the side of what use to be Mayblins papershop and the house to the left and outbuilding still survive.

The memorial now stands in the grounds of St. Aidans Church on Warwick Road
