Road, Rail and River.

Published by The Locomotive Publishing Company, this
is the L& N.W.R Oban to Euston Express leaving
Carlisle. Extra info. on the rear of the card says
'One of the 'Claughton' class 'LORD RATHBONE'
The building above the train is probably on
Crown Street, the covered section of the station
extended much further south in its early days.

No date but early 20th C.
Interesting for the various modes of transport, tram,
handcart, horse taxi and horse drawn wagons
The Town Hall is in the background, almost all the buildings
to the right have been demolished.

A 'National Series' card

A much later card than the previous two, this is
probably the 1960s.

In the far distance is the Guildhall, whilst to the right
the bus has advertising for 'BRO-TANG' soft drinks,
a trade mark of Underwoods of Peter Street.

Published by Photoway of Fleet St.

Again a card probably from the 1960s showing
Botchergate from the station end.
The Midland Bank to the right is now the Griffin pub
and Redmaynes is Bar Solo

A Hiller & Lang of Glasgow card.

Holme Head Works and the weir on the River Caldew.
Now flats and a restaurant, the small building on the
left was demolished years ago.

The weir fed the mill-race that supplied water to most
of Carlisle's mills and can still be seen in Caldewgate
(outside Durham Pine)

The mill finally closed in 1991, this part was closed
sometime before that.
