Market Place 1950s and Newtown

Market Place circa 1958 with the bus stops arranged around the central island.

Note the 'Angel' sign above the Wine and Spirit Stores on the left, next to that is Style & Mantle clothing shop.

Parking still seems to be a free-for-all.

This card was posted in 1909. On the left is the row of houses at the end of which is Shadygrove Road.

On the right at the end of the row of houses is St. Barnabas Church Mission Hall built in 1898. Beyond that I believe it is Coledale Farm. Right in the middle of the picture in the distance is St. Mary's Home for Fallen Women/Penitents at Coalfell. Opened in 1872 and closed in 1920 the home was revived in 1926 at Coledale Hall as a Home for Friendless Girls just up from the Green Dragon Inn.
