Trams, trams and more trams.

Further reading. 'Tramways of the City of
Carlisle' by G.S.Hearse, often pops up
on Ebay.

Tram No.10 making its way over the Viaduct to
Dentonholme. This line ended at the junction of
Denton St. and North St (Holmehead). approx.

The building to the right is part of the old Carlisle
Gaol demolished in the 1930s.

Here a tram wends its way down Lowther St, possibly
to Stanwix. Amazingly all the buildings in the picture
are still standing. Bank St. is to the right, the shop front
is the Cumberland News office.

This tram has stopped and appears to be doing
maintenance work, probably cutting trees so that
they do not interfere with the lines. The Ribble bus
company cut trees back until the late 1980s when
its double deckers were phased out.
The tram is at Our Lady & St. Josephs church
on Warwick road.

Making its way up Stanwix Bank to Etterby St this tram
is just passing the entrance to the cricket ground.
The terminus was at the bottom of Etterby St.

Two trams passing St. Aidans church on Warwick Road.
Nothing has changed much except the fence around
the church has gone. The line terminated at
Petteril Bridge just past Brunton Park, there was often
serious flooding of the line (nothing changed there).

The card is dated 1910.
