Town Hall, Currock, Castle & Botchergate.
Posted on the 14/11/1908, 9 days after the church
opened, it was sent to young Harold's Grandma
in Co. Durham saying that he had raised £3 10s for the
church. The building still stands as part of the Currock
Methodist Church at the junction of Currock Road and
Blackwell Road.
Posted in 1949, those old enough will remember the
underground toilets in the centre of the picture, also
the bus shelters around the Town Hall.
A 1929 card, it depicts the old buildings of Finkle St.
to the right and the Salvation Army Citadel to the left.
The tank is a WWI tank given to the city as a reward
for fundraising during the war, it was removed in the
1930s being regarded as an eyesore..
Botchergate, no date but around 1910, a flock of sheep
is being driven towards the city (we think of litter
today as a hazard, but the amount of animal poo on the
streets must have been dangerous to the nose as well
as the feet)
Tait St. is to the left and Crown St. to the right..
