Botchergate Looking South & The Carlisle Arms

Two cards from about 1920. This is a good view of The Carlisle Arms, also known as The Gaol Tap and The Pineapple. In 1858 it was altered in design and the carved city arms by John Kirkbride were put on top of the building.
It closed in Sept. 1930 and was demolished for road widening.
I remember my father telling me that prostitutes used to operate between the two sets of swing doors at the entrance.

A nice animated view of Botchergate with The Red Lion Hotel and the Spirit Vaults Bar on the left.
