Thomas Bushby

Thomas Bushby came to Carlisle in 1884 as a designer for Hudson Scott (Metalbox). He became a much sought after Carlisle artist and Tullie House has almost 200 of his works in their collection. Some were turned into postcards, this is a selection.


Painted in 1903, it is entitled 'Homeward Bound' 'Newbiggin Bridge, Nr Carlisle', and is the firewood gatherers returning with their load gathered from the local woods.
